A Stroke of Luck

As Angeline was walking around Marina Square after work on 17 June 2008, she 'bumped' into (literally) into Yuan. Thus, they agreed to go for dinner together.

Clueless about what to have to dinner, Angeline and Yuan went to look at the shopping mall's directory. As Angeline was (generally) not a fussy eater, she let Yuan decided what she prefered to have dinner.

Their conversation at the directory was as below:

Yuan: Waraku?
Angeline: I just had it on Sunday.
Yuan: Spageddies?
Angeline: I don't want to eat pasta.
Yuan: Yoshinoya?
Angeline: You don't eat Yoshinoya.
Yuan: Why don't you decide?
Angeline: Japanese or Thai food?
Yuan: Thai.
Angeline: Let's go Lerk Thai then!

Angeline is indeed not a fussy eater. She managed to make a choice before Yuan listed out the whole directory of restaurants. Heh!

When Angeline and Yuan reached Lerk Thai, Yuan exclaimed that Lerk Thai was having a promotion that the 3rd customer would get to dine in free with every 2 paying customers. Yuan then turned to ask Angeline if they should go for the promotion. Angeline was wondering where on earth did Yuan see a '3rd' person whom they could go together and enjoy the promotion. Angeline asked Yuan if she thought they would be that lucky enough to bump into another friend at Marina Square then. Yuan just laughed it off. However, Angeline was left wondering about the '3rd' person.

Angeline and Yuan then told the waitress to get ready a table for 2 and Yuan requested for a window seat. When they were showed to their table, Angeline had difficulties getting into the seat. Looking across, Yuan faced the same problem. Thankfully, Angeline was not the only one and anyone would if he or she was going to squeze through a tiny slot to reach the seat that could be barely pull out 5 inches from the table and with an identical seat that was blocking the way.

For dinner, Angeline and Yuan shared a 'Dinner Value Meal' that consisted of Papaya Salad, Tom Yum Soup, Stuffed Chicken, Green Curry Chicken with Steamed Rice, a side dish of two Thai Fish Cakes and Mango with Glutinous Rice for desserts. It seemed that Angeline and Yuan were on diet by sharing the 'Dinner Value Meal'. However, it was not the case. Looking at the menu, the 'Dinner Value Meal' consists of a generous seving of Papaya Salad, a bigger bowl of Tom Yum Soup, 3 Stuffed Chicken, and a larger portion of Green Curry Chicken. Angeline (and prehaps Yuan) wondered what has happened to the portion of the food that was served.

Angeline was totally bloated from the dinner (despite the miserable portion). On the other hand, Yuan was still hungry. For your information, Angeline did not eat her portion. Angeline told her that she might be full after eating the Glutinous Rice from the desserts. To their (great) diasppointment, the waiter told them that the chosen dessert was sold out. Jokingly, Angeline told the waiter to fly one in from Bangkok. When Angeline saw the stunned look on his face, Angeline decided to ask for the bill.

As Yuan was still feeling hungry, Angeline then suggested going somewhere else for desserts.

Their conversation was as below:

Angeline: Andersen's?
Yuan: I don't want.
Angeline: Rochor Beancurd with Doughsticks?
Yuan: I don't want.
Angeline: Bugis's HK Desserts Place?
Yuan: I don't want.
Angeline: You decide then.
Yuan: Chinatown's Wei Xiang Yuen.
Angeline: Nice?
Yuan: Best in Singapore, come I show you there.

Talking about fussy eaters earlier, Angeline has found her match. Since Yuan was such a fussy eater, Angeline decided to trust her (for once).

As parallel parking was out for Angeline, she chose to park at the public carpark beside Fuo Ya Si and walked over to the desserts place. Just as Angeline and Yuan were walking away from the car, Yuan asked Angeline if she had put the parking coupon. Thus, Angeline walked back and did the deed.

At Wei Xiang Yuen, Yuan ordered a Mango Pomelo Sago for herself, Egg Pudding for Angeline and Water Chestnut Cakes for sharing. Looking at the desserts, Angeline believed Yuan when she mentioned that she was still hungry.

As Angeline was bloated from dinner, she was struggling with her desserts. On the other hand, Yuan finished them (all) effortlessly. Not wanting to waste food, Angeline decided to take a rest and cam-whore (in an attempt to digest her food) before she continued to eat the desserts.

Yuan obligied Angeline (damn) willingly and Angeline must admit that she seemed more experienced than herself. Oh well!

Angeline thought that she has definitely lost to Yuan (in term of facial expressions). Till the next time then!

WIth much effort, all the desserts were proudly finished by Angeline (and mostly Yuan). As Angeline was really (overly) bloated from all the food, she decided to take a slow walk (included shopping at Chinatown) back to the car. When Angeline reached the car, she cursed herself for the slow walk. She was fined S$6.00 for overdue parking coupon. One glance at the time on the fine, it read "8.47pm" and Angeline's parking coupon expired at 8.45pm. Angeline shall salute all the 'hardworking' government officers! Oh well, at least she wasn't fined S$30.00 if Yuan didn't remind her to put the parking coupon.

P/S: Happy Birthday, Yuan!
P/P/S: A timely birthday treat for Yuan!
