[ wHaT aRe yOu ThiNKiNg, bOY? ]

The pop-up icon from my MSN highlighted to me that I have a new message in my inbox from Facebook. Naturally, I logged in to read the message.

I just started playing with Facebook two weeks back. Wilson introduced this to me and some of my friends insisted that I should try it out. Initially, I wasn't too keen about it since I still hold an existing account with Friendster. However, I gave in to my curiosity in the end.

After reading the message, I simply decided to ignore it completely. But this message inspired me to blog. On top of that, Marcus and I was on a debate over sms last night over 'Men are jerks'. It sort of proven to me (once again) that there are indeed examples of such jerks around. They are jerks not because they want to befriend me. It is because I had put my status as 'In a relationship' and posted photos of Ck and I and my purpose is to look around for friends that I KNOW, not strangers. Quoting from Marcus, 'Duo Ren Suo Hao Fei Jun Zi', in Enligh, it says a gentleman will not steal others' love. Marcus himself also mentioned to me before that guys have hidden agenda at times. Now, you know.

One point that I will like to clarify is I AM NO BEAUTY and I KNOW IT MYSELF. For Christ's sake, I happened to have a full length mirror at home. Therefore, it puzzled me to recieve such messages. No doubts, they are flattering but intangible. I DO not believe in any shit that I have read. These messages just reinforce my point, 'Men go for looks'.

These messages are cut directly from my inbox from Friendster and Facebook. No editing was done. I have used initials instead of their real names and their number and email account have been replaced by ???.

"Selamat Hari Raya" to all my Muslim friends!!!

Aisha was invited to her friends' house to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri. If you are wondering who is Aisha, it's time that you keep yourself updated with my blog. (Aisha = Angeline)

My coursemates invited me to their houses on the first day of Hari Raya, my first Hari Raya celebration for the past 24 years. Natually, I was super enthusiastic and looking forward to it for the entire week.

The first stop was Choa Chu Kang Ave 4, Satimah's house. I made a detour to pick up Hannah at her place before driving over. We reached promptly at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. The moment the lift door opened, we were greeted by Satimah's hubby and brother. It just happened that her house is next to the lift and the family laid a carpet and a mat on the ground for the celebration. They had cornered the area in front of their front door all the way to the lift! Aisha hopes that it is legal.

Hannah and I were introduced to the rest of her family members. When Satimah introduced me to her mother, she held out her hand at me and I don't know why I took it and 'salam' her. *scratch head*

After that, Satimah urged us to get food. That was exactly what I look forward to. On display, there were 'Ketupat', 'Bagedel', 'Mutton Rendang ', 'Sambal Prawns', 'Vegetables Curry', 'Ayam Percik', 'Kuihs', 'Pulut Lepa' and some other side dishes whose name I am unsure of. I took a small portion of most dishes and settled myself comfortably on the couch before attacking the food. I must really learn how to cook from Satimah and her mother. THE FOOD WAS SUPER YUMMY-LICIOUS! Ultimately, I couldn't resist the temptation of taking a second helping to some of my favourites, like 'Bagedel' and 'Mutton Rendang'.

Ayam Goreng

Ayam Percik

Ketupat

Mutton Rendang

Pulut Lepa

Kuihs

No gambling activites took place at the celebration, unlike the Chinese New Year, which is always filled with 'Huat ah!' thoroughout the day. It was more like a gathering for friends and family members. We 'makan', chit chat, took photos, expressed worries for coming assignment, complained about lecturers, watched Mr Bean on Disney Channel, more 'makan', toured the hubby's workshop in one of the rooms, sat down and 'makan' more kuihs. DAMN! I am so going to hit the gym soon.

After 2 hours, the trio decided to head to Hannah's house. FINALLY! We were too comfortable on the couch to move our arses. Ha! Before I forgot, this was also my first time giving 'green' packets to children, one each to Satimah's two daughters and one for Satimah's nephew. According to Malay customs, a person is eligible to give 'green' packets once he/she started working, even though the person is not married. Now, I enjoy being a Chinese.

Next stop is Choa Chu Kang Central. It was about a 5 minutes drive from Satimah's house. We were quite taken aback when we saw the house full of relatives. I was feeling a bit out of place, because I was the only Chinese there. This time around, Hannah did the introduction and her younger niece asked for my hand to 'salam'. *scratch head again*

When we were seated comfortably on Hannah's BIG sofa, her mother walked over and invited us to eat (AGAIN) !!! Out of politeness, I joined Satimah and Hannah at the table. I took sparingly from the dishes. Hm, I observed that the dishes were similar. There were 'Mutton Rendang', 'Ketupat', 'Vegetable Curry', 'Sambal Prawns', 'Bagedel', 'Ayam Goreng', 'Kuihs' and 'Pulut Lepa'. I tried a bit from some of the dishes and concluded that they tasted somewhat the same. Ha!

After the 'makan' session, we went to Hannah's room to continue our chit chat. We were in there for about one hour before we heard more relatives flooding into Hannah's house. Right! Time to go!

That marked the end of my Hari Raya celebration.

[ wHy meN aRe jErkS? ]

I have officially concluded that men are jerks. Need I say more? Well, I don't think I need to been through a lot of relationships with men to know this simple logic of life. I've seen my fair share of men in this world and believe in that fact. The only difference is whether they admit they are jerks or they retorted that women are bitches. That's all.

Just in case you are wondering, CK & I are fine. We're still together blissfully. Don't think too much or get too happy over NOTHING.

I shall dedicated this entry to all the jerks out there.

  • Men go for looks all the time. - Don't you dare to deny it!
  • Men think with the other head. - I can't find one who doesn't.
  • Men fear committment. - But they want their women to commit.
  • Men like to boast about their sex experiences/partners. - Who really cares?
  • Men can tell lies without a sense of guilt. - They expect women to fall for it.
  • Men believe 'the more the merrier'. - Therefore, they enjoy two-timing.
  • Men can't resist temptations. - Faithful doesn't exist in their dictionary.
  • Men don't mean what they say. - Promises are meant to be broken.
  • Men are capable of making groundless remarks. - They don't even know what they are talking about.
  • Men can say 'I Love You' to a stranger. - Just to get into her pants, what's else?
  • Men let their eyes wander all around. - Not on their own girlfriend, but others'.
  • Men think they are smarter than women. - Get alive, it's definitely false.
  • Men are concious about the looks of their girlfriend. - Superficial creatures.
  • Men assume that they can never understand women and blame it on them. - They didn't even bothered to try.
  • Men are enemies with PMS. - They conclude they got all the shit at that time. Wrong! Women have it worse.
  • Men's brain is being preoccupied by sex. - On an interval of every few minutes.
  • Men always deny that they think about sex. - I told you that they are good liars.
  • Men don't value open communication. - They think it's a waste of time.
  • Men doesn't know how to appreciate women. - They take women for granted.
  • Men think they are always right. - They never apologize for their mistakes.

Therefore, I think I should get a dog.

  • Dogs don't wonder if you are good enough for them.
  • Dogs don't question you when you come home late.
  • Dogs don't brag about whom they've slept with.
  • Dogs don't play games with you except fetch.
  • Dogs are already in touch with their inner feelings.
  • Dogs who are gorgeous don't know that they are.
  • Dogs understand what "No" means.
  • Dogs think you are a culinary genius.
  • Dogs don't correct your stories.
  • Dogs don't feel the need to abandon you for a younger owner when they reach middle-age.
  • Dogs don't criticize your driving.
  • Dogs are nice to your relatives.
  • Dogs mean it when they kiss you.
  • Dogs aren't threatened if you earn more than they do.
  • Dogs don't care whether you shave your legs.
  • Dogs don't complain if the sink is full of dirty dishes.
  • Dogs look at your eyes.
  • Dogs like your size.
  • Dogs always think you're smart and don't make fun of your shortcomings.
  • Dogs are willing to sleep on a rug and fetch on command.
  • Dogs spend less time worrying about hair loss.
  • Dogs are utterly disinterested in professional sports.
  • Dogs are rarely jealous of your former boyfriends.
  • Dogs don't complain when you want to go for a walk.
  • Dogs are willing to eat anything you put on their plate and will always want more.
  • Dogs expect to go outside on leashes.
  • Dogs feel guilt when they've done something wrong.
  • Dogs don't criticize your friends.
  • Dogs admit when they're jealous.
  • Dogs are good with kids.
  • Dogs don't mind if you do all the driving.
  • Dogs love to dance.
  • Dogs admit it when they're lost.
  • Dogs take care of their own needs.
  • Dogs don't care how you dress.

What do you think?

[ i aM so DeaD ]

On the contradictory, life has never been better than on 5 October 2007.
  • I got 2 new enrollment in 1 day. (My boss was supper HAPPY.)
  • I got a B grade for my first assignment. (Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Early Childhood Education)
  • I am going to Gracefields' Year-End Concert with CK. (I don't need to WORK.)
  • I had a supper wonderful dinner with my coursemates. (Courtesy of Sapirno's.)
  • I recieved a tub of Malay goodies from my friend. (Thanks to Hari Raya Puasa.)
Well, it is actually nothing great about all the events. BUT they all happened in 1 day. Therefore, my mood escalated to 'FANTASTIC'.

Right, of course this main focus is NOT on the above. In fact, I am so DEAD! Let me annouce despondently that Angeline is going to survive ONLY on bread and water for the rest of this month. If there is any kind volunteer, please kindly agree to treat me dinner! Ha!

Damage done to me this month:
  • Haircut = S$28.00

  • Hair Treatment = S$38.00

  • Shopping = S$.......... (I'm not done with it YET.)

I don't think I deserve much sympathy for this. Ha!

[ gEyLaNg sEraI foR mE ]

For my readers' information, I am officially half a Malay according to many of my close friends' observation. They even gave me a Malay name called 'Aisha' to that extent.

Ar Bish!

Seriously, I also have no idea why. Maybe, my circle of close friends are Malays. Ha! It's true.

I went out with Jo, Jam and Wa on Thursday after work. We went to break fast together at Al-Alzhar (I think the spelling should be right) at Bukit Timah. Upon reaching there, I saw many Malays waiting to break fast. There were plates of food on every table but no one is eating them. They are all waiting for the TIME. So everyone is practically staring at the food. We ordered the food and it came specially fast on that day. Out of courtesy, I decided not to eat as well. I don't think it is polite to gobble your food in front of so many pairs of hungry eyes. Ha! Therefore, I waited with them. And then the prayers started over the 'radio' (That's what I think it was).

Immediately, almost everyone at Al-Alzhar started eating. Ha! SO DID I! I was starving!!!

After dinner, Ida joined us for Geyland Serai. I was feeling excited. My first time there! Yes, I am a Singaporean. Need I say more?

Traffic was moving at a snail pace. We took more than half an hour to drive there, travelling at the speed of 60km/h. Gosh! ON PIE?

The girls decided to bring me to one of the bazar at Geylang Serai. Anyway, they need to get some stuff for Hari Raya as well. I practically acted like a 'tourist' there, taking pictures as I walked around the bazar. Ha!

Jam was my 'tour guide' for the night trip.

First stop was to buy 'baju' for Jo. He needed it to do a dance for Vanda's concert this year. We came by a shop that sells fanciful 'baju kebaya' and Jam happened to notice that it sells 'baju' for children as well. We stopped by to ask and the salesman was quite helpful. He got the size for Jo to tried on. He even kneeled down to help Jo to put it on. (Bonus: He looks cute!) The new 'baju' looks great on Jo and deal is sealed!

'Baju Kebaya'

I was tempted to buy one for myself.

Jo was struggling to get into the 'baju'.

Our handsome BOY

We continued to window shop around. Well, let the photos do the talking now!

My Paradise - I LOVE BAGS!

Jo got a pair of slippers from this shop.

Beautiful lighting for your home?

These packets of decorations should do the trick as well.

It reminds me of Chinese New Year's decoration.

Malay Goodies - I don't know the names?

Food Bazar - You will love IT!

That practically summed up the whole Geylang Serai's trip. Tired but HAPPY!

[ pEarL JaM - laSt kIsS ]

I am totally MESMERIZED with this song. (In case you're still wondering, please look at the title.) I can't help but to put it on the repeat mode, listening to it over and over again.

CK had introduced this song to me and I'm loving it. Two days back, we were walking along Sun-Tec City looking for my Yami Yoghurt when he heard this song being played in the background. Immediately, he exclaimed that he has been searching HIGH & LOW for this song, however, in vain. (Because he doesn't know the artist and the title.) Therefore, I volunteered to help him.

I found it on
http://www.sogou.com/. Malcolm has introduced this POWERFUL search engine for me. Indeed! I got the song quite effortlessly. I just typed in 'Oh where oh were can my baby be?' and the title and the artist just appeared on my screen. Ha!

I decided to go the extra mile. I went to surf for the lyrics as well. The lyrics sort of remind me the song 'Love Me'. My eyes became wet (out of a sudden).

Pearl Jam - Last Kiss

Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to Heaven so I got to be good.
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

We were out on a date in my daddy's car.
We hadn't driven very far.
There in the road, straight ahead.
A car was stalled, the engine was dead.
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right.
I'll never forget the sound that night.
The screaming tires, the busting glass.
The painful scream that I heard last.

Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to Heaven, so I got to be good.
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

When I woke up the rain as pouring down.
There were people standing all around.
Somthing warm flowing through my eyes.
But somehow I found my baby that night.
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said,
Hold me darling just a little while.
I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss.
I found the love that I knew I had missed.
Well, now she's gone even though I hold her.
I lost my love, my life, that night.

Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to Heaven so I got to be good.
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

Woh woh woh woh woh
Ohhh oh ohhhh
Woh ohhh oh oh oh ohhhh
Ohhh oh oh oh oh
Woh ohhh oh oh oh ohhhh
Ohhh oh oh oh oh
What says you?

[ WaTeR ]

Your element is Water

Understanding, intelligent, quiet and calm. You know who you are and no one can change that. Usually quiet but only because you're listening. Don't let anyone think you haven't got an opinion! You're not quiet because you're shy or sad, you're usually quiet because you're thinking. Your answers are well planned and helpful so people generally seek your advice.

You're the perfect balance between solitary and outgoing. But sometimes, you need a little time to yourself to sort out your emotions and figure things out. You understand the phrase 'sticks and stone' and rarely let things get to you. What's that important for you to have to get so upset over? You know what you want out of life but are simply taking your time and enjoying things. To you, your life is fine as it is, you can always change things later if you're not happy.

[ i sHd maKe mOre $$$$$$$$$$ ]

Here I am sitting in my office, mulling over low enrollment and getting upset all over it. Apparently, one of the parents told me she would like to withdraw the child after the trial period. ARGH! At the back of my head, I was just thinking, "WHAT THE FUCK? AGAIN?!" I hate the rollar coaster ride that I have been going through for the past 2 months, enrollment going up and down, children coming in out and my mood swinging here and there. But there is only so much that I can do. I had even sent her an email 'begging' her to re-consider her decision. GOD, I am PRAYING so hard for a miracle to happen NOW!

Well. That is just a little rant felt by me.

Anyway, the main focus is on this book called 'Perceptive Play! The A to Z of Discerning Fun for Tots and Parents written by Wong Li Lin. Yes, she is the MediaCorp actress who married Allan Wu and gave birth to a daughter. What's her name again? I conveniently forgot. Ha!

I was browsing through some books at MPH (City Hall) on Monday. I was trying to kill some time while waiting for my Dad to knock off so that I can pick him up. It just so happened that I was walking past the 'Childcare' section and the book caught my attention. I have to admit that I used to be a fan of Wong when I was younger (maybe 10 years old?). Thus, I couldn't resist the temptation to pick up the book and flipped through it.

Initially, I was quite taken aback that Wong actually authored a book. A biography is more like it. But a book about parenting tips isn't exactly what I have in mind about Wong's forte. After reading through some of the strategies that Wong had provided in her book, I agreed with her and I will praise her for putting in effort to include interactive ideas of perceptive play for young children.

The ONLY flaw in Wong's book is EVERY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR knows about the strategies and has implemented the suggested ideas in their curriculum. While I was browsing, I managed to identify quite a fair bit that was being used in my OWN classroom. So theoretically, I am able to become a AUTHOR myself and make big bucks from the copyright and sales. I just have to collate some of the SUPER interesting and hands-on components together, maybe plus playing around with the E-language and BINGO!

Now, the question is WHY DIDN'T I?

The cover of Wong's Book

More information about the book:
Perceptive Play! The A to Z of Discerning Fun for Tots and Parents will put an end to your "What will I do with my child so she can have fun and learn?" conundrums! Chock-full of ideas, Perceptive Play! offers well-planned and utterly thoughtful play activities that will surely delight toddlers, preschoolers and parents! With one activity for every week of the year, you will be brimming with ideas on how to play with your tots. Lessons are built in on the sly, giving you plenty of tips on how to make the most of each game and activity. Look forward to box-house engineering, literacy fishing, inter-spatial relations doodling and stories that feed the imagination. Perceptive Play! also incorporates the concepts of maths and science for young minds.

P/S: If you are a fan of Allan Wu, my suggestion is to buy the book. His photos are included as well. Now, that's a bonus for buyers. But then again, what is the connection? Ha!

[ nO pOrK aT aLL ]

I had recieved this email from Eleanor quite some time back. Just happened that CK was at my place and I was checking my mail when I showed him this video. BOY! We both had a good laugh. Daddy being his usual KPO-self came in and asked us what is the good joke. So we showed him the video. Fwah! He luaghed even harder than the both of us. Geez! I didn't know Daddy has sense of humour up to that level yet. Nonetheless, this video is for my friends who are feeling down or sore about some stuff, something to cheer u up!

Btw, HAPPY MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL to all and CONGRAS to my couple friend. Do send me the bomb soon k?

The END!

[ I'm TurNing 24 ]

I will be 24 officially on 10 November 2007. Just in case, anyone who doesn't know or conveniently forgot all about it. That is my birthday.

After living on this planet for the past (almost) 24 years, I can proudly declared that I am contented with my life.
  • I got my driving licence and can DRIVE a car. (Thank GOD!)
  • Up to date, I was only involved in one accident and left totally unhurt.
  • I got a promotion this year. (Yes la, my pay increased too.)
  • I have important ppl in my life whom I want to cherish and protect. (Of course it's CK, Papa and Mama and Ah Ma.)
  • My friends never fail to entertain me when I need them. (Namely Joelle, Marcus, Wahila, Jam, Lissa, Brighton)
  • My temper changed for the better. (I SWEAR!)
  • I learnt to let go. (Yes, literally.)
  • I made new friends. (Hannah, Satimah, Marlinda & Duck - not very new actually)
  • I am enjoying (& struggling with) my Bachelor classes.
  • I am going to graduate with a Hons degree next Feb. (HURRAY!)
  • I still stick by my principles - What I doesn't know doesn't hurt me, What goes around comes around, Love one and only once.
  • There is no ABSOLUTE in this world. (Too many ppl have told me that and I am beginning to understand and accept that.)
  • I still bask in the enjoyment of educating young children. (Including traumatizing them, WAHAHA!)

What's more can I ask for right?

Anyway, CK has given me my birthday present for this year and I have been using it for the past 2 days. IT is the NEW Samsung U-700. THANK YOU, DEAR DEAR! DREAM PHONE SEH!

U700

Slim yet powerful. I totally agreed. Really! Weighing only 86 grams plus it's sleek appearances, I bet it is going to sell like hot cakes in the market soon. Not only that, I got it at the price of S$188.00. Super good bargain right? WAHAHA!

[ i NeEd tO gO for iT tOO! ]

I was browsing through some of the blogs that I read frequently and one of it caught my attention. It was about the female lead actress of the Korean popular movie, '200 Pounds Beauty'. CK and I had caught it quite a few months back, so I could still rem Kim Ah Jung quite vividly.

Trailer of 200 Pounds Beauty

Kim Ah Jung

After reading the gossip on the Korean actress, I went to surf the net for more information and found quite a bit on the related topic. Apparently, Kim Ah Jung REALLY had cosmetic sugery, just like the character in the show. But thank goodness, she was not exactly 200 pounds, just slightly over weight. That is not the point! The sugery changed her ENTIRE appearance totally. In the photo provided, she looked like a plain Jane and I bet no one will take a second look. (Prehaps some even choose to miss the first look.) BUT BUT BUT LOOK AT HER NOW! One of Korean MOST GORGEOUS LOOKING actress!

Before & After

Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE!

Well, if that is what any girl can achieve, I bet everyone will queue to go under the knife. YES! Including myself. No girl is happy with the way she is. (IN MY OWN OPINIONS) Like it or not, girls can always find faults with themselves. Eyes? Nose? Mouth? Boobs? Fats? You name it, and there it is!

Seriously, I will choose to get myself a pair of dimples. That is always what I wanted since young. Maybe I will go for double eyelids as well. Plus a liposuction. YA! IF ONLY, I have the $$$ and I am able to bear with all the pain that comes along with the operation. It is not too bad just to dream about it. Doesn't it? JUST take a LOOK before you answer.

Freaking HOT!

Girly Sweet

Sexy

Nude is still the best!

Hot Pink ain't too bad!

What is your answer now?

[ yOU beLieVe iN It? ]

Apparently, I have recieved this mail repeatedly in my Friendster account, Hotmail account, Yahoo account as well as Google account. No doubt, I sent it to some of my friends when I recieved it for the first time and NOTHING happened. So it just confirmed that IT IS NOT REAL! It could be just a advertisement gimmick that is being circulated around. Well, I guess everyone goes for cheap thrill, including myself.

The mail as follows:

This was on the 9:00 o'clock news the other night and this works THIS TOOK TWO PAGES OF THE TUES! DAY USA TODAY - IT IS FOR REAL. PLEASE READ!!!! It was on the news! This thing is for real. Rest assured AOL and Intel will follow through with their promises for fear of facing a multimillion-dollar class action suitsimilar to the one filed by Pepsi Co against General Electric not too long ago.

Dear Friends, please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates sharing his fortune. If you ignore this, you will repent later. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test. When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track it (If you are a Microsoft Windows user). For a two weeks time period, every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00. For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it, you will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you for your address and then send you a check.

I thought this was a scam myself. But two weeks after receiving this e-mail and forwarding it on. Microsoft contacted me for my address and within days, I receive a check for $24, 800.00. You need to respond before the beta testing is over. If anyone can afford this, Bill gates is the man. It's all marketing expense to him. Please forward this to as many people as possible.

After reading it through once more, I realised the last paragraph is the pulling factor that make me forward this mail to my friends. I have read it before that when the advertisement includes a real-life example, it makes it look more convincing than the others. Take Marie France Bodyline, Expressions and Mary Chia for example, these sliming centres used celebrities to boost the public's confidence of their products and they have included the plain Janes who have also successfully shed the weight that they desired. But compared to the statistic who signed up agasinst those who managed to achieve their aim, I guess it will be fairer in this sense.

So what is the moral of the story?

[ 91.3 fM ]

Drove to Marina Square with CK last Sunday.. tuned in to 91.3FM.. and it turned out to be a topic of debate over dinner for the two of us.. apparently there was a prank call made and broadcasted over the radio.. I can't really rem the exact sentences.. but the content is definitely intact..

DJ: Hello. Is that Mr Lee speaking?
Mr Lee: Yes. Who is that calling?
DJ: I am the manager of the Katong Karaoke Pub.
Mr Lee: uhuh?
DJ: We are having a promotion now. We have imported Japanese girls wearing uniforms to serve our customers. And we are inviting you to join us. Would you like to reserve a room first?
Mr Lee: Woo Hoooooo! Japanese girls wearing uniforms ah? Good good good!
DJ: So Mr Lee, would you like me to reserve a room for you?
Mr Lee: Reserve a room not that important. Must reserve 3 girls for me leh.

(Unknown to Mr Lee - MRS Lee is on conference call with them and has heard everything that the husband has said.)

Mrs Lee: You better reserve one more also la.
Mr Lee: Hello? (SHOCKED)
Mrs Lee: You want to bring me also along right?
Mr Lee: Sorry? Who is this girl? (STILL IN SHOCK)
DJ: That is Mrs Lee.
Mrs Lee: You see.. you see..
Mr Lee: Darling, you see.. this one I was just preparing.......
Mrs Lee: You call me darling now ah! Japanese girls you like ah? You buy uniform la.. Japanese girl's uniform. I wear at night can!
Mr Lee: Darling, I call you back.
Mrs Lee: What call me back?

(The phone went dead and that marked the end of the prank call.)

Topic of debate: Who is the one at fault?

CK: DJ - He doesnt have the right to make such a prank call.
Angeline: Mr Lee - SERVE HIM RIGHT!
Marcus: DJ - It's against principles and everyone has temptations.
Shun De: DJ - He is breaking up the couple indirectly.
Lissa: Mr Lee - Betrayal is wrong.

No right or wrong. BUT I stick to my stand. It is obviously Mr Lee at fault. He doesn't have to succumb to his temptations. BUT yet he did. I don't deny that none of this would have happen if the DJ didnt make the call. Nonetheless, the guy was given a choice and he just have to bear the brunt of it. Case closed.

This story is fictional. Any resemblance to the living is purely coincidence. Thank you.

Joshua: I think it is better that we stop here.
Xuan: Stop here?
Joshua: I know it hurts but I will like to stop it here.
Xuan: What you mean? You want to put down the phone?
Joshua: No. I want to end the relationship here.
Xuan: Oh..... so that is your final decision.
Joshua: We can still be friends. (BULLSHIT! So typical of guys!)
Xuan: Oh k.

(Xuan hung up the phone.)

Did she cry? No. (Not a single drop of tear)
Was she devastated? No. (She went out to cut her hair on the very day.)
Was she suicidal? No. (Are u MAD?)
Regretted about the whole relationship? No. (It's OVER)
Still love Joshua? No. (He can jolly well F*** off.)

Flashback to 3 months ago...

Joshua: Can I go out with Abigail first before meeting you later? She is having some problems with Matt.
Xuan: Ok. I'm busy with work at the moment. Will call you once I'm done.
Joshua: Ok. We will be either walking around town or drinking coffee. Just let me know when you're ready.
Xuan: Ok. Bye!

Start of red light flickering in the relationship. But Xuan still chose to trust Joshua and Abigail because one WAS her boyfriend and the other WAS her friend and they had been on double dates before.

One month later... (during one double date)

Joshua: Dear, you want to take a cab home?
Xuan: Most probably. I still need to work tml. Matt, do you want me to send you home as well? It's on the way.
Matt: Hm.. Are you sure?
Xuan: Ya.. Pretty much.
Matt: Ok then.
Xuan: What about you and Abigail?
Joshua: I think I will send her home first before making my way back. I need to pass by her place anyway.
Xuan: Ok.

In the end, Matt and Xuan shared a cab home & Joshua and Abigail took a stroll back to Abigail's place before Joshua eventually made his way back.

3 weeks later... (at Joshua's place)

Xuan: Can I play with Snake?
Joshua: NO! (AND SNATCHED THE PHONE AWAY FIERCELY)
Xuan: But why not? I want to break the record.
Joshua: Low batt already.
Xuan: But you just charged it, didnt you? Something I can't see?
Joshua: No.
Xuan: Give it to me or I will walk out now. (She sensed something was definitely wrong.)
Joshua: There is something I want to tell you.
Xuan: Go ahead. (She saw it coming and expected the contents already.)
Joshua: We're both very sorry and felt very guilty.
Xuan: Hm..
Joshua: It just started. We didnt do anything wrong.
Xuan: Oh...
Joshua: Nothing happened. We just confessed that we have feelings for each other.
Xuan: Anymore?
Joshua: No.
Xuan: I'm getting out of here.
Joshua: Will you forgive me?
Xuan: I guess we need some time to cool down.

(Xuan walked out of the house and never stepped in again.)

A week later.. Xuan and Joshua broke up over the phone.

2 weeks later.. Matt called Xuan for help. He wanted to know if Abigail and Joshua were togeher. Because apparently Abigail didnt make things clear to Matt and kept on dragging. Xuan made the call and that marked the end of the friendship between Xuan and Abigail.

A month later.. Abigail and Joshua got together. (Matt is still in the dark and asked Xuan to call Abigail for him. Xuan refused to help anymore. But Matt claimed that he just sent Abigail home the other night and she gave him a good bye 'FRENCH KISS'. Xuan hung up the phone. She didn't want to know if Abigail is two-timing Joshua and Matt. It doesn't matter to her anymore.)

2 years later.. Xuan heard from a mutual friend that Abigail did it again. She initiated to break up with Joshua so that she can be with another guy. Finally, Joshua felt the heartache of being betrayed by ppl he loves.

Has time change anything? Yes. Xuan had moved on.

Morale of the story: What goes around comes around. Believe it.

The Seventh Month - The month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar when the Gates of Hades are thrown open. During this period, ghosts and spirits and all departed souls make their annual pilgrimage back into the land of the living.

In the seventh month, Chinese folks in countries like Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong burn incense and joss sticks, conduct prayers and make offerings to the returning dead. In Singapore, however, they take the business of placating and entertaining the spirits one step further. They have "getai" - makeshift concerts which pop up all over the island.

Each year, more than 500 of these concerts take place during the Hungry Ghosts Month. Entertainers lined up include comedians, magicians, opera performers and singers with garish costumes and even more elaborate dance choreography.

Royston Tan's new movie 881 unfolds against this unique cultural backdrop in Singapore.
Two Singaporean girls join together to form the Papaya Sisters, a getai group that sings at performances during the seventh lunar month. Coached by their seamstress Ling Yi, the Papaya sisters struggle at first because they have no “feel” in their voices. As a last resort, they appeal to Aunt Ling’s estranged twin sister, the Goddess of Getai, for help. She grants them their wish, but warns them the price will be high. Rule No.5 states that they shall not love or be loved by any man.

The Papaya sisters hit the getai circuit and sing their hearts out with their newfound “feel”. Big Papaya is pursuing her dream in spite of strong parental objections. Little Papaya, being an orphan, is in a personal race against time to realize her potential. Like her deceased parents, Little Papaya suffers from cancer and has little time left. Through their perseverance, hard work and Aunt Ling’s amazing costumes, the Papayas become the most popular sister act in town. They use their fame to help raise funds to help Chen Jin Lang, who is suffering from cancer. But they are soon devastated by the death of their idol, Chen Jin Lang. While Little Papaya grieves, Big Papaya finds solace in the arms of Guan Yin.

Unknown to them, rival sister group Durian Sisters have become intensely jealous of the Papayas' success, and are determined to trip them up by messing up their schedule. With the help of their gangster Godfather, the Durians succeed in shutting the Papayas out of many getai. They are ruthless in their underhand attacks on the Papayas, using magical darts to hurt their rivals. Guan Yin cannot defend them, and even the Goddess is appalled by the tactics employed by the Durians. Although she grants the Papayas whatever celestial powers she can bestow, she warns them that there is a limit to her powers.

At a confrontation, the Durians challenge the Papayas to a showdown. The stakes are high: whoever loses will leave the getai scene for good. The Papayas accept, and start preparing for the big day – new costumes, new songs, new dances. The movie climaxes with a dramatic musical battle. Both sides pull out all the stops to win over the audience. But as the fight becomes more intense, the Durians attack with their laser darts and the Papayas retaliate with their celestial powers. As last, Little Papaya succumbs to her illness and passes away soon after.

I caught the movie [881] on saturday night with CK at Bishan Junction 8. Prior to watching the movie, I actually went to surf the internet for its synposis and read a number of blogs that gave good review about the movie. In fact, most ppl praised Royston Tan for producing such a good moive. That is why I was slightly disappointed when I left the cinema. Theoretically, I should have enjoyed it much more than I would expect myself to.(No offence taken.)

My two cents worth: I dun understand the plot to a large extent. To that, I was even wondering am I breed locally? How it that possible that I dun even get a local movie? OK! I know what is 'Qi Yue Ge Tai'. I know what is the purpose of it - To serve as a form of entertainment for those 'Hao Xiong De' who roams the streets every seventh month of the lunar calendar. But I dun get the plot! I have to ask CK to tell me what is gng on and explained it to me when we walked to the carpark to collect the car.

Can someone clarify these few questions?
  1. Is this 'Godness of Getai' human or God? - (She lives in a temple and behaves like a God.. but she happenes to be the twin sister of Ling Yi. And you mean she has the power to make Little Papaya contract cancer like her parents just because Big Papaya and Guan Yin kisses? Plus you mean she has the ability to take away the illness from Little Papaya when Big Papaya ask her to be merciful and she is willing to take the suffering for her because she is the one who has sinned in the first place? So what makes her?)
  2. What is the role of the magical feathers in this show? - (It doesn't seem too logical for any God to bestow powers to ppl in this sense? You mean the feathers will help the Papaya Sisters to sing really well if they wear it during their performanace? I think I can better understand the part that Guan Yin wanted to pluck out a feather from the rooster to keep as souvenir when he planned to sold it away.)
  3. Is Guan Yin really DEAF? - (How come he can play music and listen to it using the headphones? NO SENSE right? He can response to ppl most of the time pretty quickly. I think my response is much slower as compared to him. HAA!)
  4. What is the matter with the mother of Big Papaya? - (All I know is she doesn't like Big Papaya to sing 'getai' but WHY? And didnt she use to be a singer as well? What happened? I was expecting an answer somewhere in the movie.. but NOTHING.. or I miss it again?)
  5. Who wins the competition? - (There wasn't a clear-cut result, or was there?)

Alright. It's not fair to say that this movie is lousy.. because it is NOT! Give CREDITS to the songs.. they are really captivating Hokkien songs.. and MORE CREDITS TO MINDEE ONG & YEO YANN YANN.. they are the ones who bring this movie alive.. with thier ingenious tongue-twister of song titles in front of the 'Godness of Getai' and fascinating costumes that they wore during their performances. I went to surf YouTube for the songs.. n FOUND a good collection. Yeah!
